Spinner practice with Amy

Well hello!

Today is hump day, oh thank goodness. At least the week is half way over, right? Well the weekdays are for putting in work, in the office and in the gym. "Dance studio counts as a gym?" Bet your butt it does! Just as pole fitness is a sport.
Todays class was at The Girls Room in Irving, taught by Amy Henderson. She's a pole bad ass, and a great teacher. She helped us perfect our climb today, as well as gain comfort in doing our lay backs on the spinner pole. For those reading this that are not familiar with pole, yes the pole spins on it's own. Or the pole can change back into stationary mode with the replacement of a little pin located at the base of the pole. Any who...
I liked todays class because I always find it beneficial to practice climbing. I needed to get my knees re-bruised, anyways. After all, I have to be ready for the Winter Showcase and Toy Drive this Sunday! I am familiar with the knee hold and lay back, thanks to Tricia in Frisco! Amy helped me go further in the exercise by teaching me how to go into a split after my knee hold, love it! I am becoming more and more comfortable doing my split on the pole after just 3 practices.
Two jobs, dance class, and trying to maintain a healthy lifestyle can be a little tiring sometimes. So excuse me while I talk about the bad ass deliciousness I created for myself after dance. Mmmkay. So, It's just eggswith cheese, and baked asparagus. But still, it's so good. I also bagged some up for lunch tomorrow, productive girls say what?!

Enjoy some small clips of todays class!

Love ya

Crack 'n Back

Alright alright! It's Monday, BOO!
Monday is just one more reason to work out even harder, because Mondays suck all the more. And today, I kicked Mondays ASS!

Today, I went to work and did a little flag fooseball practice with my Risk team at Exeter. We are playing in a flag football game on Wednesday as a time-waster to get out of work earlier. Oh, and team bonding of course. We are playing against another group, Credit Review. We are going to cream 'em. *Pictures to come* I got in a little extra 30 minutes of cardio! Man, haave I gotten bad at short distance running. Definitely an opportunity for improvement there! Hi, I like to hate myself publicly.

At dance, we went over:
     Head stands
     Hand stands
     Basic swing
     Climbing
     Dancer legs
     Back bend on the pole

I recorded a little somethin' somethin'. Feast your eyes on the ever famous Crack and Back.

Crack and back is where you keep your legs open in spread eagle while using ONLY your abdominals to make a swiping motion, swiping your butt crack on the pole and tucking in your tail bone with your abs to slide the pole towards your back.
Another little tip on keeping an open perspective in this trick, is that it takes a strong core to successfully slide your feet elegantly and get into head/handstand position. You should definitely use legwarmers, you know, if you want you protect your pedicure of course. Or, your flesh on your feet, but whatever. In pole, you shed skin and bang yourself up, in a way your wounds are a sign you accomplished something, or are getting closer.

Here's another little clip, doing essentially the same thing but instead of coming out of the trick into a split, i'm locking my ankles around the pole and sitting up, into a climb. But I have leg warmers and don't want to bust my face, so I simply stand.

That's all I have :(
I have been slacking on my dancing this past week, I have no excuse other than i've been going to the gym rather than dancing. I have an extra 20lbs i'm wearing and feel like if I go to the gym instead, i'll come closer to losing that weight. But the truth of the matter is, I have a showcase coming up soon!

Mark your calendars, December 2nd is my showcase!

Not much to see here

Alright yall, I want to make this short, sweet, and to the point! I don't really know why, just don't feel like talking about pole.

Show i'll just show ya some pole.

A little floor work...

and a little half-ass combo.
. Sorry, not a productive week for me you could say! :)

Continuing the contructive critisism

     Better late than never,

Here is my Free Style Friday!

This weeks pole jam sesh was to Marilyn Manson's "Sweet Dreams' cover. Truthfully, I find Marilyn Mansons music to be sexy and full of opportunity for dances. My taste in pole music is definitely the grunge, slower tempo and heavy bass tunes. A sexy song played in the back ground of a sexy pole jam just makes it all the more SEXIER!

So as the title states, critisism galore up in here.  I feel like as a dancer, my style is very up-tempo and very lyrical style (created from the fusion of ballet with jazz and contemporary dance), so pole has been a great challenge for me to bring out my inner heavy metal head and combine it with the bad ass moves on the pole.
This FSF (FreeStyle Friday, come on, get with it!) was my 4th attempt! The 3 previous attempts were too huge of fails to post. I'm embarassed to even type that, haha. But, that's what FSF is for - learning and strengthening yourself! We all over analyze the things we do, but that's exactly how we become the dancers we are. That being said, i've been recording about every move I learn in class to later on 1.) REMEMBER the darn move 2.) Critique my performance.

This past week, I attended a spinner pole class and learned a couple moves/little combos and taped them Friday evening at class before my FreeStyle Friday, here they are...
The little combo below was taught by Amy Henderson at the halloween pole dance sesh we had earlier in the week. My goal is to lean back more in my 'Hello Boys' variation so I can more comfortably hold myself.

The clip below was taught to me by Tricia in Frisco and is the first spinner move i've ever really learned. It's very simple and elegant, like I said my back flexibility needs work!

Lastly, this is my Candy cane into one legged basic swing, with a sassy little kick. Candy cane is such a beautiful and powerful trick, it took me a bit to get comfortable with the whole 'running and jumping' motion of it all, but eventually it becomes more fun of a trick to perform, especially when you see the look on everyones faces! ;-)

My goals for the week are to work on my over all technique. No one wants to see some heavy breathing, curved back weirdo spinning around some pole. In order to get where I need to be, I need to be cross training and work on strengthening my muscles. I feel like my core and back flexibility need the most work.

Thanks for reading and if you're a fellow pole sister PLEASE comment some constructive critisim, comments and/or post your own pole blog link! XoXo

Halloween Pole Jam

HAPPY HALLOWEEN, Y'ALL!

I seriously feel like everytime I come to write in this thing, i'm exhausted. I guess that means i'm doing something right? Today is Halloween! The holiday festivities have offically begun.
At dance class today, we were told to wear our costumes. Amy taught 'Spinner Pole - All Levels' and we worked on some very pretty spinner tricks. Toward the end I did a little freestyle, nothing spectacular but someone asked me to show them what a bunny looks like pole dancing, so I took the opportunity to do a little jam while rockin' my cotton tail.

The Girls Room, Irving students on Halloween!
We took a couple pictures of the students with the teachers and then just the students...
Fellow students and our rockstar teacher, Amy Henderson + her hot dog, Mikey!

This is not a long post whatsoever, I am now retiring from my laptop onto the couch, where I will lick my wounds and try to rest my sore beastly pole muscles.
     Good night and HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

Tuesday Training with Tricia

Every now and then I like to hop to different locations that The Girls Room has to offer. My membership allows me to visit any location (Dallas, Frisco, Irving) as many times as i'd like per month. Today I decided to visit the Frisco location. This location is actually where I first was introduced to pole fitness, by a groupon of all things! I love me some groupon.

Tonights class, 'Rockin' Pole - All Levels', was with Tricia! She is super nice and informative about anything fitness related. It is definitely a perk of having a membership to a legitimate studio where the employees know things that i'd NEVER know! While I was at practice, I made a point to record what I practiced for the day.

In the video above, you'll see I practiced:

1. Back bend
2. One handed Sparrow3.
3. Cork Screw
4. Rock Star

Now, that was exhausting. I definitely fell tonight, but it was bound to happen eventually. I got it on tape, but as IF i'm posting that! Haha. As far as new things I learned in class goes, we learned princess shoulder mount! I'm super excited. I got up successfully twice, it's a tough little trick. Frankly I am not very interested in learning regular shoulder mount, maybe i'm a pansy. Anyways...
Goodnight!
So after class, I decided to make me and my little bro a healthy dinner. I whipped us up some omlets with kale, cheese and mushrooms. Threw some black beans on the side, and viola. Get in my belly. Check it out!

Here's to new beginings!

Today is Monday! Boo. I certainly did not go to pole today. Before my break up, I would spend my Mondays exercising, then dancing, then cutting up all my vegetables for the entire week until about 12:00 AM. Now that I'm post break up, I'm allllll about doing what I want to do, because I CAN! Not that I was ever told what to do, but in a serious relationship there's always (at least for me) that sense of obligation, to be home around the same time and eat dinner and relax, etc. Now, I relax when and how I choose. Don't mind me, I'm just having a little party over here in my new singledom. :-)
With the new single status comes a new chapter in my little book of life and it's up to me to choose how it's spent. I choose to bust my ass, get in killer shape so I can excel in pole. I have to be smart in doing this so I don't burn myself out, yikes!
Tonight after going to the local Sprouts, I headed up to the nearest 24 Hr Fitness where I have a membership. My workout was pretty wimpy. 10 minute warm up on the treadmill, then 30 minutes of weighted crunches, toe touches, pikes, weight machines (arms, abs, thighs) and 30 minutes of intense interval training on the elliptical. I was sweating and had my heart rate up, but for some reason I just don't feel the same satisfaction unless I do a class provided at 24 (cycle, turbo kick, body pump..).
Although I'm not in love with my work out this evening, I did certainly cook up a storm...

I made smoothies (kale & strawberry) for the next two days, as well as salmon and rice for lunch. For dinner I had some mighty sexy brocolli and salmon. And to answer your question, YES I am in love with salmon right now. It's a piece of cake and is fantastic for you.

The rest of my evening now consists of a little laundry and then a long awaited good nights rest! Goodnight Xoxo

A little love, a little hate.

Need I remind the people reading this that this blog is primarily to critique myself in my process of mastering my new art, pole fitness. Please share words or encouragement or tips!

Friday night, I attended my first "Pole fitness- FUN" class! And of course, it was fun! CHEESE MUCH? It was a small class, which is always what I prefer. That way, I can get the teachers help or advice that much faster. Also, my friday pole class was at The Girls Room, Dallas location, which has the 45 mm pole. The difference in diameter can change your wimpy 'wannabe' trick into the real deal, no doubt.
This clip below is half of what we covered in class.

What I Love:
- Well, you can see my whole butt basically, so that's lovely.
- My Rockstar (first trick, 0:05) is on point. Such a beautiful trick once understood how it's maneuvered.

What I Hate:
- Just going through a breakup the day prior (eat your heart out), I had gone drinking the night before recording this. So, beer pong is to blame for my lack of energy. Seriously, I had no energy.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The video I've posted below is my  FreeStyle Friday routine! I recorded it on Saturday, because as stated above I had zero energy, and well, after you get dumped you just don't feel all that sexy, ya know? So, I decided to do myself and my pride a favor and wait till I re-grouped the next morning. Still, I was low energy. Because I drank Friday night too.. What? Don't judge me! :-)

Free Style Friday, October 26 2012
Kings of Leon "Closer"

What I Love:
- My constant flow of spinning moves. I feel that I often become intimidated when in front of the camera and pole dancing, so this was something I was really wanting to work on.

What I Hate:
- My lack of combos. I need to learn some new fluid combinations so I can brainlessly whip a few tricks out while giving myself time to contemplate a climbing trick afterward. Amy Henderson would say "Why you looking all quasimoto?!? Smile! Point! Breathe!"
- Overall posture.
- Repetitive combinations. Let's count how many water fall and back bend variations are in there, please... No, actually don't :-)

Freestyle Friday

So in the pole community (that I've recently fell absolutely in love with), one of our pole sisters has created a fabulous and creative way for us to display and practice our recently acquired tricks and combinations. The challenge is to do NOTHING planned before. Sounds cool, right! Oh it is! But I didn't do it :(

No wireless Internet available for me to download via iPad iTunes.

However, here's a couple mini clips of

The combo of the day

1.Idian swing
2.Water fall
3.Back bend
4.Pole-uette
5.Basic swing
6.Petals
7.Rockstar
8.Backbend
Gemini, into something, into mermaid, into um... "SWIPE", ha!
